ABOUT US

Music is the pen of the soul

Formed in 1986, the Sydney Jewish Choral Society is Sydney's premier Jewish mixed community choir.

Under the musical direction of Rose Grausman for the past thirty two years, the choir is an established part of Sydney's cultural scene, performing a broad repertoire spanning Jewish and Secular music of varied styles, from liturgical to modern.

The Society participates in fund raising for community causes and regularly appears in public on behalf of Sydney Jewry.  Using music as a bridge between and within the Jewish and wider communities, the choir aims to build goodwill and spread messages of harmony and tolerance.

Rose Grausman, Musical Director

Born and raised in Russia, Rose trained at the Moscow Musical College and the Gnesinski Musical Institute. She worked at a Moscow school for musically talented children and at the Kabalevsky Laboratory before migrating to Australia.

Since her arrival in Sydney, Rose has taught music in schools and privately.  She has also worked as a conductor of the Sydney Children’s Choir and Singers 2000. She has been the musical director of the Sydney Jewish Choral Society since 1989, imbuing it with her spirit and musicality.  Her leadership, guidance and mentorship has seen the choir mature musically and successfully meet the challenges of a rigorous performance schedule.
